OSC Catalogue

For someone who doesn't have a very big garden, I get way too many seed catalogues. I know I could just check out the listings on-line, but there is something special about having an actual hard-copy catalogue to look through while I sit in a comfy chair with a hot drink. While each catalogue covers the basic vegetables and flowers, every one is a bit different and has certain items not available elsewhere. OSC( Ontario Seed Company) has pretty run-of-the-mill vegetables and flowers, but a closer look reveals some unique items. They offer a mini cantaloupe - Lil'loupe - which produces personal size fruit. I have grown them before and they are very tasty. I get about 4 fruit per plant and I'm sure they would produce more in a hotter, sunnier location . OSC has 13 varieties of radishes including a green one, and one that is white on the outside and red on the inside. Not many tomatoes to choose from, but they have Pink Ponderosa, a tasty pink beefsteak, that isn't easy to find. In the flower section, I was pleased to find a dwarf sunflower that makes seeds (so many of the new varieties don't). OSC also offers a wide selection of wildflower and grass seeds. They have naturalizing blends of native plants for wet and dry conditions, and they sell native tree seeds.

  1. I quite agree, there is a special pleasure to be had in having a proper seed catalogue to order from.
